butchertown was the scene for immigrants in the late 18th century and early 19th century. butchertown's unique urban geography, coupled with the area's proximity to an abundance of water and open land, allowed for the flourishing of commerce. additionally, the richness of the economy, residents' diversity, and community vibrancy sustained butchertown's powerful and close-knit neighborhood identity through to the closing of the last slaughterhouse in 1971. fast forward to today, what was once known as butchertown is now a striving neighborhood in san francisco, bayview district. we at butcher town coffee are an immigrant family-owned business that keeps true to our roots as we serve our friends and family in our beloved bayview community and the world.
