martindale’s was established in 1869 and is one of the first health food stores and natural markets specializing in organic food, gluten free food, and natural food supplements in the united states. philadelphia's own thomas martindale, merchant, civic leader, big game hunter, and author founded our market. his son, thomas c. martindale, began importing diabetic foods in 1909 while working in his father’s business. the public became conscious of the need to choose healthy food which led to health food stores being in demand. find only fresh organic produce here. we work with local area farmers to provide local organic fruits and vegetables as available every day. get local heirloom tomatoes, greens, melons, and more in season. local, grass fed, raw milk is available here and is very much in demand. also find handcrafted, grass fed cheeses from the area. you are sure to find local yogurt and butter. all of our many selections of eggs are local and are obtained from a variety of nearby f
