st mary’s calne is a boarding and day school of around 340 girls aged 11–18. approximately 80% of the girls board and it is a rich boarding life with all girls taking part in the full-curriculum and extracurricular activities on offer. st mary’s is committed to providing a broad and fulfilling education that will challenge and inspire its pupils, as well as helping them to achieve fantastic public examination results.in 2012, 85% of the gcse exams taken were awarded the highest a*-a grades and 71% of girls gained eight or more a*-a grades. at a level 66% of the examinations taken by st mary’s calne girls were awarded a*-a grades, with 27% at a*; this compares most favourably with the independent sector average of 18%. 23 girls (46%) achieved either a*s or as in all their exams, which compares with an independent sector figure of 6.1%. the school is small by design and is renowned for outstanding pastoral care. every girl is known and cared for as an individual and has a tutor to suppor
