the foundation’s main purpose is to increase knowledge of swedish history of defence and security, and to stimulate research with these purposes, especially research with interdisciplinary focus, also to make available, for both the public and the researcher, the historical archive and historical film equipment. the foundation amf – army, navy and air force film –  has one of the oldest collections of film in the world and is also one of the earliest producers of film in sweden. the collections are placed in our ecological archive, which consists of a total of 10 000 titles placed in over 30 000 film boxes. in addition to their own films the amf also handles an archive of films from the defensive forces at the request of the military record office. but  also at the request of several other organisations and companies such as the national police board, the bernadotte academy, coop as well as private film companies such as scandinature film and mirakel film & tv.
