the goal of “back 2 blacktop” is to provide an environment that inspires local youth to play, socialize, and develop positive interactions with others in their community. our organization believes that revamping the “blacktop” basketball courts with vibrant colored murals will contribute to “rebounding” our youth from increasingly high, obesity rates. many of the communities have existing infrastructure that can be enhanced to increase the beautification and/or available resources. therefore, we are proposing to implement art as a key driver to “reactivate” the desire for outdoor recreational fun at one’s local park(s.) the exposure to art is known for helping children and teens to develop many positive skills and capacities such as innovative thinking, self-awareness, self-esteem, and the exploration of feelings and emotions. in addition to increasing activity at local parks, the proposed enhancement will also serve as a canvas to drive creative expression and reignite a sense of
