the role of business services is to provide shared services to balfour beatty across the uk. business services, or worksmart as it was formerly know, was established more than three years ago at the customer support centre on quorum business park, newcastle. since then, business services has grown from an initial start-up team of just three to almost 700. it is now located at seven sites across the uk, in: basingstoke, derby, gateshead, linlithgow, london, newcastle and sheffield. the shared services which business services delivers to balfour beatty are divided into service lines including: accounting services, employee services and hrss (hr shared services), itss (it shared services) and supply chain, covering:  looking after financial affairs: accounts payable and receivable, sub-contracts, tax and compliance, finance and reporting  employee services: payroll, expenses, global mobility  being the centre for hr shared services  being the centre for it shared services 
