baltoro capital is a mauritius based private equity fund which was set up as part of the pakistan private investment initiative (“ppii”) program initiated by usaid. the purpose of the ppii is to catalyse the private equity market in pakistan and to make available capital and management resources for the support and expansion of high-growth potential businesses in pakistan. the fund’s mandate is to invest long-term, patient capital in promising businesses in pakistan with high growth prospects in order to expand their market share, innovate product and service lines and ultimately create jobs and increase incomes in pakistan. as part of the investment strategy, the fund seeks to enhance and optimize the investee company’s capital structure by providing equity capital to make recipient enterprises financially stronger. the fund currently has committed capital of approximately usd 50 million.
