ban the box nj is a grassroots statewide campaign in new jersey to mobilize political support for the opportunity to compete act. our campaign, commonly referred to as "ban the box," expands fair job opportunities to all new jerseyans by asking employers to conduct criminal background checks after an applicant has been interviewed and has received a conditional offer for employment. this campaign is collaborating with the bill's legislative sponsors to unite nonprofit organizations, business groups, communities, and college students throughout the state of new jersey. we believe all new jersey residents deserve the fair opportunity to compete for work, which will help enhance the economy and promote public safety.
