the british acoustic neuroma association (bana) is a registered charity that was formed in 1992 to provide support and information to acoustic neuroma sufferers, and to encourage research into this and interrelated conditions. an acoustic neuroma (otherwise known as a vestibular schwannoma) is a benign brain tumour which grows on the balance nerve in the bony canal from the ear to the brain. they are also located in the path of the hearing nerve and in the vicinity of the facial nerve, and can therefore have one or more of a number of debilitating effects; like single-sided deafness or hearing loss, tinnitus, balance and cognitive problems, fatigue, dizziness, headaches, facial palsy, anxiety and depression. this type of brain tumour is generally, but not always, slow growing, and each patient's experience is individual, depending on their age, general health, and the size and location of the tumour. the treatment pathways for acoustic neuromas also vary, depending on these varia
