kandhamal is a district in odisha. its history dates back to 3rd century b.c when it was under maurya region. these hilly terrains with 70% forest area is still a home to its natives – kondh tribe. for centuries, these tribal people have grown food organically in their fertile backyard for their own consumption. unfortunately, these age old traditional farming culture is dying in the region. in 2019, government of india, recognized “kandhamal haldi” as a unique produce from the region and awarded intellectual property rights in form of geographical indication tag. that’s why we have started banani, which means evergreen forest."
