the bank of mauritius was established in 1967 and is governed by the bank of mauritius act 2004. we are the central bank of the country. we function differently from commercial banks. we regulate and supervise them as well as non-bank deposit taking institutions and cash dealers carrying on activities in, or from within, mauritius. moneylenders and certain credit unions also fall within our purview. our main role is to maintain price stability and to promote orderly and balanced economic development. we issue currency. we advise the government on monetary and financial matters. we manage the foreign exchange reserves of mauritius. note: we will not ask you for your individual banking details. please do not respond to mails asking for these details in the name of the bank of mauritius.
