Barrientos Scholarship Foundation

founded in 2005, the barrientos scholarship foundation provides academic scholarships to students of latino heritage attending colleges and universities in nebraska. scholarship recipients are selected based upon academic achievement, community involvement, character (based upon personal references), and career ambition. our primary annual fundraiser is the latino heritage awards banquet held each fall during national hispanic heritage month. the evening begins with a reception and entertainment followed by a banquet and awards program. during the awards program, community leaders are honored and scholarship recipients are recognized. for 2012 we are also honored to be the host and primary beneficiary of the cinco de mayo omaha banquet which is the official kick off to the annual cinco de mayo omaha weekend festivities which, in 2011, drew approximately 55,000 visitors to south omaha.
