the group's name derives from an important principle in qatar's commercial heritage - the concept of a reliable and trustworthy agreement or contract. these values form the core of our corporate personality. a few years before our establishment, qatar had embarked upon an ambitious and progressive growth strategy based on its wealth of natural, energy-based resources. by 2005 it had achieved unprecedented growth in its economy, indeed a leader in terms of economic growth among countries around the world, and was beginning to be recognised as a key player both as a global energy provider, and as an engine of growth in the gulf region. barwa's creation was a demonstration of the vision of the country led by his highness the emir and the government of the state of qatar to build a modern country with a diversified economy for the benefit of future generations. we seek to contribute to the government's over-arching development plan for qatar as set out in the qatar national vision 2030. si
