balf helps motivated, capable high school seniors: - become college-ready - explore college and careers - develop personal and professional skills - successfully navigate the college admission and financial aid process. we offer mentoring, coaching, and guidance to support completion of their degree. who we serve the majority are the first in their family to attend college. most are underrepresented minorities who may lack a college-going tradition in their family and whose success is critical to closing the persistent educational achievement gap. by 2013-14, sites will grow to six public schools in oakland, emeryville, pittsburg, richmond, and san jose, from four in 2012. each site accepts up to 10 students to assure consistent support. as of 2012-13, almost 200 students have participated in the program.
