the bc council on substance abuse is a non-profit organization with a dedicated team of volunteer directors whose mission is to provide leadership in the development of workplaces free from impairment by substance use. canadian employers are mandated to provide safe workplaces for their workers and the public and there are numerous legal interests for an employer to satisfy. a company drug and alcohol policy is just one part of an organization’s health and wellness program for their employees. impairment on the job site is one of the most challenging issues facing employers today and the workplace is a very appropriate and powerful venue for substance use education, intervention, treatment and prevention. our education and employer/employee training revolves around what we call the 4 pillars of a drug free workplace. we believe each pillar works in tandem with the other 3 simultaneously. these pillars are: 1. company policy 2. supervisor training 3. employee training & ongoing ed
