almost four decades ago fire fighters in british columbia were visiting patients in the burn unit saw a critical need and started contributing money for burn unit medical equipment and to help patients on their journey to recovery. inspired by such spontaneous generosity, captain alex blake from the coquitlam fire department proposed a province-wide initiative……and the bc professional fire fighters’ burn fund (burn fund) was formed. in the ensuing years, the burn fund has: given $1 million dollars to build the bc professional fire fighters’ burn, plastic and trauma unit at vancouver general hospital. supported burn units and burn treatment centres across bc. helped establish, and fund, the bc professional fire fighters’ burn and wound healing research laboratory and it’s cutting edge research. increased awareness of burn prevention measures with education initiatives such as burn awareness week and too hot for tots program and seasonal safety tips. helped hundreds of adult
