BCC Prep Outdoors

bcc prep outdoors is the hiking club at bronx career & college preparatory high school. bcc prep is a new public school entering its second year. we are located in the south bronx and serve a largely minority, low income community with a majority of students receiving free or reduced lunch. most students in the outdoor club are either english language learners, overage students, or both. bcc prep outdoors is the first club at the school and was created in response to student demand. our goals are to: (1) provide students with opportunities to leave the city, be outside, and challenge themselves, (2) connect students with other organizations with similar goals, (3) develop leadership skills, teamwork, self-confidence, and healthy habits, and (4) have fun! our current plan, since we are in our first year and are run by a full-time teacher, is to go on at least 1 outing per month. by the end of the year, we hope to have all the equipment needed to go on a multi-day backpacking trip.
