the black scientist collective (bsc) consists of baylor college of medicine (bcm) trainees (students, post-doc, research technicians, etc.) that promote black excellence in science. we aim to support the success and well-being of black scientists through personal, professional, social, academic, and community development. diversity is essential to ensuring innovation and creativity in science, as good ideas in science are often influenced by differing backgrounds and perspectives. black individuals are widely and consistently underrepresented in the sciences. not only does this diminish the quality of the science produced, but it also facilitates a feeling of non-belonging, or imposter syndrome, among the few black students that do enter the realm of scientific academia, especially for those at predominantly white institutions. inclusivity of black students and acknowledgement and celebration of black culture is necessary for ensuring the success of black scientists and improving scie
