beam (beyond earth aristotle missions) is an aristotle university of thessaloniki's team aiming to participate in the bexus | rexus of esa (european space agency). for more information related to the project, visit esa's official webpage: rexusbexus.net team's experiment is called shade (sdr helix antenna deployment experiment). the focuses on the design and the testing of the communication channel between a stratospheric balloon and the base station using sdr (software defined radio) equipment and not standard rf circuits. the comparison will be made with esa's already existing telemetry, thus assessing the reliability and quality of the communication channel. at the same time, the deployment mechanism of a retractable spiral antenna in the balloon carrier will be examined. this is how we try to avoid the disadvantages of such an antenna (large volume) to create new ways of use and implementation in small satellite applications, cubesats and other space missions. η beam (beyond ea
