beamz is a social enterprise developing innovative methods and technology to use a coppice wood poles, a fully sustainable material to make modern, high performance products. initially a bicycle featuring a wooden frame, forks and handlebars is offered for sale. bicycles are associated with sustainability, but perhaps more importantly, high performance bicycles are made from the very best structural materials available. we are putting our sustainable material technology head to head with these materials. beamz is dedicated to leveraging this technology to create three vital social impacts. professor david mckay (sustainable energy - without the hot air) has revealed that the biggest contribution to our profligate use of energy is the energy embodied in the goods we buy. most of this is used to refine materials such as steel, aluminium, plastic or composite. substituting beamz natural pole material for an aluminium tube saves 10 to 15 times as much energy compared with burning the wood
