amélia, a precocious girl, who struggles to communicate with her mother after the death of her father, is sent to the portuguese provincial town of elvas. there she meets thomas, an austrian boy who is being fostered by her aunt and uncle while they find his parents from whom he was separated during the war. after a rocky start, they teach each other the true meaning of friendship and communication. directed by laura seixas and written by kerry-ann calleja mcgregor, belonging was the winner of shore scripts 2014 in short-film category.
