i am developing paintings that explores the contrast of high value color in a limited palette. my optical paintings have underlying forms that conceptualizes paintings with simple shapes. these shapes allude to three dimensional principles while maintaining a strict two dimensional plane. i choose limited colors to enhance the distinction between three-dimensional forms, and two dimensional painting. the eye wants to see three-dimensional shapes, and i am using these shapes and pure color to work against that tendency. instead of a forced perspective that gives the illusion of depth, i am working to explore an intentional two dimensional painting that optically confuses three-dimensional forms.
