Best Start Communities

in 1998, california voters passed proposition 10, placing a tax on tobacco products to fund children’s programs. first 5 la’s commitment is to strengthen the collective will within communities, organizations, and systems to promote the safety, healthy development, and well-being of children prenatal to age five and their families across the 14 best start communities. community partnerships – collectives of community leaders, parents, residents, and others – in each of the 14 communities have worked together to support each other and implement activities that support their vision for children and families. today, first 5 la is moving each community partnership into a regional and local network structure.
