beto’s coffee company of nicaragua provides unique gifts and delicious coffee. in one of the world’s poorest countries, beto, a local shoemaker living in masatepe (who has been handcrafting shoes since he was 12), now creates unique shoes, purses, bags, and home décor items using upcycled coffee sacks. the business is transforming the community, providing jobs and providing hope for families. beto’s bistro is a fun hangout that both locals and visitors enjoy. beto’s coffee and handmade gifts are available at the bistro in masatepe, nicaragua and online at betos.org/shop. the weidmans set out to discover the hidden talent and resources in masatepe that the world needed to know about, and happened to find them in the form of don beto, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. since founding one collective nicaragua and beto’s coffee co, the organization has grown to more than 40 people. the hybrid model of for-profit and non-profit work seems to be the secret blend that allows them to
