betsy wiss, l.ac, ms provides acupuncture services to help clients alleviate pain and heal themselves. acupuncture is very effective for eliminating pain and/or for pain management. this ancient healing technique is over 2000 years old, but has very modern applications. acupuncture has the ability to re-pattern tissue to make a lasting change, it is not just treating the symptoms. the fine needles (36 to 38 gauge) are inserted into points of the body that will create the most physiological changes in the body. this is possible because these acupuncture points are anatomical, not random. most of the points are along dermatones, muscle motor points, trigger points, or ligament/tendon origin insertion points. when needles are placed along neurological pathways, neuro-transmitters are released which helps block the sensory nerve pain to the pain. this blocking of the pain signal also re-patterns the nerve or de-sensitizes the nerve, which results in less pain and a change in how the nerve
