bristol hospital broadcasting service ('bhbs') is a registered charity run solely by volunteers offering a 24 hour radio provision to the hospitals in and around bristol. founded in 1952 it is one of the longest continuously broadcasting stations of its kind in the world. we provide a customised radio service to all our patients with a mix of music, chat, comedy and popular request programmes. we also broadcast live sporting events and concerts. primarily our aim is to make our listeners’ stay in hospital as comfortable and relaxing as possible. we visit patients on the wards every evening and provide that friendly face in an unfamiliar world. our voluntary roles include programme presenters & producers, fundraisers, ward visitors, engineers, it specialists, charity trustees and much more.
