the berkeley heights volunteer rescue squad (bhvrs) was established in 1942. 73 years later, we are still proud to serve the citizens of berkeley heights and the surrounding towns. in 2014, the bhvrs responded to 840 calls, ranging from the flu to heart attacks to multi-vehicle car crashes on route 78. the bhvrs is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by volunteers who live and work in the township. on every shift there are two members who hold a valid new jersey emt certification, which requires a class of 180 hours to obtain. whether you call the rescue squad for an adult or child, illness or injury, you can be sure that you are getting at least two experienced medical professionals to take care of you or your loved ones. as a volunteer organization, we never charge for a ride to the hospital or any medical supplies we use. the bhvrs is funded primarily through tax-deductible donations. all donations are used to purchase such items as supplies and equipment and to support the obje
