the company bia farraige arann (which name means food from the sea) was formed in 2017 by the inis mór development co-operative (comharchumann forbartha arann), with the aim to create new qualified jobs on the island, to potentially attract young graduated islanders back home. at the same time, any profits will go into further community projects. harvesting big amounts of seaweed would not be sustainable on a small island, therefore, bia farraige formulated a few added-value innovative products, with seaweed as a key ingredient, but ready to use, tested and safe. the core of our production is an ip pending technology able to extract the goodness out of our freshly harvested seaweed and transform it into ingredients for food, drink and cosmetic use. our process doesn't involve heat or chemicals, it is sustainable, effective and innovative. with our extracts we produce: salann, salt replacement to spray on food (seaweed extract in seawater) ola, savory condiment (seaweed and vegetable
