following a successful career as a photojournalist and after 9 years of freelancing as a location scout and manager, with the emphasis being on namibia, rick matthews decided to establish big banana films in south africa, to provide services with access to the rest of southern africa apart from namibia. since its inception in october 1999 , and the 2002 landmark bbc series walking with cavemen, big banana films has been involved in the assisting of numerous and diverse productions ranging from commercials to documentaries, corporates, drama reconstructions and still shoots. although big banana films is primarily geared towards fixing shoots in southern africa, we have expanded our resources and have recently facilitated shoots in india, russia, indonesia, nepal and morocco. we pride ourselves in having probably the largest location reference database in africa, covering (apart from south africa and namibia) countries which include; zimbabwe, zambia, mozambique, botswana, lesotho, swazi
