the big scrub foundation’s purpose is to raise funds to facilitate the conservation of australia’s critically endangered lowland subtropical rainforest. the foundation is the sister organisation of big scrub landcare, one of australia’s leading and most successful landcare groups. one of the foundations primary goals is contributing to the funding of big scrub landcare’s rainforest restoration projects. the foundation is a not-for-profit community organisation that is registered as a charity with the australian government. the big scrub the big scrub covered 75,000ha prior to european settlement and was the largest expanse of lowland subtropical rainforest in australia. tragically almost 99% of this magnificent rainforest was cleared following european settlement. by 1900 only 1% remained, as remnants scattered across the landscape. these remnants are directly descended from the great gondwana rainforest that covered most of australia 40 million years ago. theses remnants are
