when we started big pond, behind an expanding study abroad sector there were growing concerns about whether all those involved were really benefiting. the ongoing growth of the sector meant it was hard to hit the reset button to think about some of these fundamental questions. a huge number of conference presentations and articles thought about how study abroad could be of most value to students. but when it came to host communities, the voyeuristic nature of many experiences was rightly criticized. how could they be included so they benefited too? what about universities themselves? in a world of seismic demographic changes, covid and online courses, where did study abroad sit regarding a university’s financial position? our approach to education abroad answers these questions and leaves them behind. based in dublin, we are on a mission to make study abroad a transformative experience for everyone involved - including universities. we build first year pathway and custom pr
