a boutique production company based in athens. blacktree productions was founded by iraklis mavroides (lead producer in dogtooth by y. lanthimos/un certain regard award -oscars 2011 and apples by newcomer christos nikou, opening film orizzonti program in mostra di venezia, co-producer in attenberg/ venice, modris/san sebastián, etc.) to provide to talented filmmakers a route to challenge and inspire audiences, touching sensitive issues such as the role of women and lgbtq stories in the patriarchy society of mediterranean. despite the global pandemic, which has greatly affected the audiovisual production and changed the greek market, we are committed to producing 1 to 2 films every year. the first film produced by blacktree productions was the film titled “where we live” by sotiris goritsas.
