formed in the early nineties as a lao-swedish joint venture, burapha agroforestry co.,ltd has spearheaded the development of plantation forestry sector in laos. together with local farmer burapha practice and agroforestry model combining food with production and make value added products in their sawmill furniture factory. silvilao identified burapha as a unique opportunity to access and plant land at low costs in the proximity of extremely large and populated markets such as thailand, vietnam, china and india. in 2012 - 2015, burapha has established a platform with 7,000 ha of controlled land and 2,300 ha planted forests. burapha applies an agroforestry model, allowing the farmers to plant rice and burapha to plant cassava in between the tree rows for the first 2 years post the planting of the trees. furthermore, silvilao and burapha has examined the opportunity to expand the plantations further and build a plywood mill beside the existing saw mill. burapha continues to have a long-te
