juan alvarez de lara discovered his passion for oriental art early on after being drawn to the innate delicacy and detail one finds within its composition. this interest flourished into to a deeper understanding of works that originate from the colonial latin american, middle east, india, china and persia. with regards to the latter a particular emphasis centres on works from the safavid, zand and qajar dynasty. this passion for oriental art was further compounded with a desire since childhood to learn and decipher the various languages and religions that often act as core components of the work juan admired. as such, apart from a fluency in persian, juan embarked upon a self taught effort to master the religious practices from greece, going through the crescent fertile to india. the sum total of this focus resulted in him having a broad understanding of the symbolism pertained within these cultures.
