short description it takes a village africa provides at risk children in guinea, west africa, with housing, clothing, food, education, medical care, and hope for a future. our story itava was founded by fatu kollie in 2010, just a few years after coming to the united states as a refugee. she knew no english, but she was able to attend school. many others in her position are not so lucky, and this is what made fatu so passionate about helping her fellow guineans. consumed by her belief that every guinean child should have a right to education and a chance to escape poverty, she set out on ambitious humanitarian efforts to establish a safe house for the street children of guinea. in this house, children are provided for, fed well, entertained and educated in the local government operated school. today, supported by her own family funds and funds from friends and well-wishers, itava operates a residential for 26 taken off the streets, orphans, and those with no one to care for them. they
