jesmond dene house is a small, 4 aa red star privately-owned boutique-style hotel with 40 bedrooms and a range of business and function rooms that sits nestled at the side of the wooded valley of jesmond dene. a country hotel setting in gardens with free car parking yet only minutes from the suburb of jesmond or bustle of newcastle city centre and the quayside. the original house was georgian, designed for a local doctor in 1822 by john dobson who was responsible for many of newcastle’s handsome streets. it was then developed in the late 19th century for sir andrew noble, business partner to lord armstrong, the great victorian inventor and engineer. the grade ii-listed arts and crafts mansion was extended and enhanced until it was bought by newcastle city council in 1933. for the next 65 years, it had various uses, including being used as a college, civil defence establishment, seminary, and as a residential school. the building was in a very bad derelict state when it was bought, rest
