mountains cover about 22% of the earth’s land area, contain 13% of the world’s population, host 25% of its terrestrial biodiversity and provide 60-80% of the world’s freshwater. extreme weather hazards are destroying alpine forests and rising temperatures are causing the spread of pests. increasing tree species diversity is vital for increasing forest resilience and biodiversity. “towards climate-smart mountain forests” is an event planned for 30 september at villa necchi, the uk pre-cop house in milan, as part of the preparations for the united nations climate change conference (cop26) in glasgow in november. this jsc mountain common project, curated by jsc one, and delivered in partnership with land tirol, austria, and the british embassy, will explore the initiatives designed for tackling these fundamental issues. join sustain create please contact rebecca gnignati, communications officer at events@jsc-mountain.org please find more information on our website
