juniper cattle company is a 650 - 700 head cow/calf beef cattle operation. located in eastern fall river county, south dakota, we graze cattle on native hard grass pastures along the ridges and deep draws that form black tail creek. we run two herds of cows, red angus on the east end and black angus on the west end of the ranch. juniper cattle markets 600 weight steers off the cow in late october and weaned heifer calves (many replacement quality) in early january. juniper cattle is a spring calving outfit, calving in march and early april. we run a comprehensive vaccination and mineral program and are a grass outfit supplementing the cows with protein in the winter months. most years we graze from april thru the next january with limited supplemental hay. hard grass country is a grazing area on the western great plains of the united states. juniper cattle is on marginal land that is rarely farmed due to the semi-arid environment. the only crop possible due to topography and
