Beth Sorrell for Ashe County Commissioner

i grew up in asheville and later moved to boone and graduated from asu in 1995. i joined the peace corps and spent three years in tanzania focusing on community-based natural resource management. later, i earned a master’s degree in public health education at unc-ch, and then spent a year in ethiopia working in community health education. these experiences living in the poorest parts of the world have opened my eyes to many different perspectives and taught me that no challenge is too great. since moving to ashe county in 1999, i’ve been involved in many community endeavors and organizations. i’ve been an advocate for the latino community, initially as part of high country amigos volunteering at the ashe latino center and i’ve used my spanish skills as an interpreter at the free clinic, dss and wherever needed. i helped organize a handful of latino festivals and feasts and i’ve been teaching esl for 15 years. i’ve volunteered and served on the board of ashe county habitat for humani
