Konojel Community Center

konojel stands for “all together” in the local mayan kaqchikel language. the ngo konojel focuses on collective well-being and sustainable community development. since the community of san marcos does not equally benefit from the tourism boom, many of the indigenous mayan people are affected by poverty and lack sufficient amounts of food.  our mission at konojel is constructing futures. therefore, we established different programs promoting nutrition, education and entrepreneurship.  - healthy babies program: in san marcos, approximately one third of children below five years old live with chronic malnutrition. during pregnancy and the following two years, women are accompanied by educational workshops, cooking classes, growth monitoring, medical and psychological support.  - young leaders program: we believe motivating children to complete their education is essential. therefore, we provide academic scholarships and workshops in leadership and active community participation. - wome
