Oxford Microfinance Initiative

the oxford microfinance initiative is a student-run consultancy that provides volunteer services to microfinance institutions. we act as a link between microfinance institutions (mfis) and the oxford student population by organizing consulting projects. teams of around ten students spend nine months researching into a specific topic of importance to the client and provide a report with information and recommendations. in 2013, omi is running in its fifth year and has worked with microfinance institutions on five continents. in the 2012-13 academic year, we worked with over hundred oxford students on nine projects. participating institutions receive access to students at the university of oxford, who are academically trained to conduct research and develop innovative solutions to complex problems. to participate in the programme, students must apply and go through a rigorous selection process to demonstrate motivation, skills and experience. we work with our clients to develop a project
