southeast kentucky economic development corporation (sked) is a 31-year-old, nonprofit economic development organization founded by fifth district congressman harold "hal" rogers, with the help of a group of community leaders in southeast kentucky. the organization was created a regional effort to recruit jobs and industry to kentucky’s fifth congressional district, located in southern kentucky. at the time, the fifth district spanned 27 counties. since then, it's increased to 45. over the years, sked has worked to expand its efforts to include direct lending, entrepreneurship training, small business technical assistance and more. sked is a community development financial institution. in 2010, sked became a certified development corporation and began administering its own sba 504 loan program. today, sked can make sba 504 loans to any business in the commonwealth of kentucky. sked has three primary loan funds: - a micro loan fund, for loans $50,000 and under. the purpose of the
