founded in 2019, the purpose of the sports media society for women (smsw) is to promote and increase diversity in sports media through mentoring initiatives and networking events. this organization, open to both women and men, holds monthly general assembly meetings to plan future networking events on temple’s campus through the klein college of media and communication. smsw strives to provide each other with potential career opportunities and connections by inviting temple university alumni and industry professionals to be guest speakers at our meetings and events. our mission, "to promote the advancement of women in sports media, so that they may have opportunities to further their careers, as well as make meaningful connections," holds true to our goal of creating an equal space for all in media, especially sports. previous guest speakers and mentors have included those from: wpvi-tv (6abc) wtxf-tv (fox 29) wcau (nbc10) major league baseball espn nfl films 97.5 the fanatic wpe
