social grids was born out of a communication hackathon organized by the eu during the eusew 2021. it was started by three master's students in energy and environment. islands are under significant threat from climate change and rising sea levels. also, since islands are not connected to the mainland grid they are dependent on diesel generators for their energy needs, thus, emitting greenhouse gases and contributing to climate change. islands are a great source of solar and wind energy, which can be harnessed to achieve energy independence. our vision is to promote the use of renewable energy on european islands and capitalize on the enormous potential of renewables on these islands. there is a significant hurdle to tackling this problem which is that the people on the islands are not aware of the huge potential of renewable energy and lack basic education about it. we plan to solve this by providing people with educational tools for educational institutions and the local community in o
