who we are: social medicine initiative (smi) strives to consider health outcomes in relation to social, economic and political factors. by bringing together patients, physicians and their families, we consider how kinship relations, structural violence, economic inequality, cultural beliefs, ideologies, and political contexts shape the experience of illness as well as perceptions toward medicine. what drives us: healthcare at the doorstep bridging gap between physicians and patients medicine as one part of the solution improving compliance and sustainable treatment by investing in social relations empathy rather than intervention what is social medicine? we define social medicine as a field at the borderlands of disciplines such as public health, medical anthropology, biomedicine and global health. the overlap provides it novel objectives compared to each subfield, as it combines analytical approaches, including quantitative and qualitative, with practical and intervention-based t
