Social Melon

social melon is a social media content aggregator which can monitor (one or more) pre-defined unique hashtags on social media platforms – currently facebook, twitter, and instagram (the 3 most widely used applications for hashtagged content) – and collects all posts containing these hashtags onto one common news stream (feed). social melon’s unique solution is the gamification of social media communication: the application applies customizable ranking systems that generate leaderboards. these leaderboards create a competitive situation that motivates event participants to be more active communicators. a high ranking on leaderboards is a sign of “opinion leadership,” and secures an elevated status for users within a community.
