socialmediatrends was founded in 2009 by rick murphy, a long-time independent manufacturer's rep from the consumer electronics industry. in 2007-08, imrs in consumer electronics and automation fields experienced a significant downturn. the causes were two-fold, obviously the national economic situation of the time was a factor, but the changing paradigm of consumer electronics manufacturers and their use of imrs was strong factor as well. since rep positions were diminishing, rick decided to put his sales and marketing skillset to good use in another direction. he decided to found socialmediatrends, and represent small to mid-sized a/v manufacturers, distributors, and specialty a/v resellers from the channel in the growing field of social media. since then, the company has expanded to other vertical markets such as healthcare practices. the attention to detail and the creativity that allowed rick to build a large and loyal dealer base in his past career is now a socialmediatrends as th
