caselleone is a little wine estate in montebello della battaglia (pv), in the oltrepò pavese wine area, the biggest and most important in lombardia. i own a quite big familiar farm mainly producing wheat, named caselleone. since 2000, i decided to restart winemaking, that has been left in last 50 years; so i replanted 13 hectares of old vineyards, and tried to focus on a little high quality production based on typical varities of our area. i now produce about 20.000 bottles per year. together with two enologists, i ‘m also working hard on a pinot nero riserva production, seeing that oltrepò pavese has an impressive terroir on this variety. actually, our wine area is now the second world producer of this variety, both in sparkling and red winemaking. for 2010, my pinot nero “pantaleone” has been awarded with “top hundred italian wines” by golosaria.
