Society of Black Lawyers

the society of black lawyers (sbl) is the oldest organisation of african, caribbean and asian lawyers in the united kingdom. founded in 1969 by rudy narayan and sibghbat kadri qc, the society is an advocacy organisation, which exists to: • promote equality and diversity within the legal profession; • act as a representative and strategic voice for lawyers, law students, paralegals, jurists and legal academics of african, caribbean and asian heritage; and • campaign to ensure access to justice and legal services for ethnic minority and disadvantaged communities. over the last 35 years, the sbl has been at the forefront of the fight for race equality and is widely regarded as the legal arm of the civil rights movement in the uk.
