Socrra and Southeastern Oakland County Water Authority (Socwa)

socwa and socrra are municipal corporations governed by separate boards of trustees. the two organizations share an administrative staff who perform management, accounting and finance, educational and clerical duties. the combined annual budgets for the two organizations is $45 million. socwa’s main function is the transportation and distribution of detroit water to the 245,000 residents of its 13 member communities through a transmission system that includes a series of pumping stations and reservoirs. socrra provides a complete range of solid waste services to the 275,000 residents of its 12 member communities. it is responsible for the curbside collection of recycling, trash and yard waste from the residents of its member communities and the processing of the collected materials. socrra also operates several facilities – a material recovery facility (mrf) which processes recyclables into saleable commodities, a transfer station for municipal solid waste disposal, a compost site
